The Jazz Jousters Lab Sessions Series

Millennium Jazz is a London based label that's home to numerous talented hip hop/trip hop producers from across the UK, France & South Africa. I recently started listening to their vast collection of free albums and side projects on their bandcamp page and became obsessed with The Jazz Jousters' bi-weekly lab sessions where beatsmiths from the MJ roster flip samples from famed jazz musicians such as Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Max Roach, Chick Corea, Dave Brubeck, Ahmad Jamal, Charlie Parker, and many more. During these lab sessions, one song from each jazz artist is selected for a group of six or more producers to sample from. Despite numerous heads sharing the same sample source, each project contains an array of sounds that avoid redundancy and showcase each artist's style and perspective.

I couldn't tell you where to start because everything I've heard so far has been solid, so here are a few random sample songs to get a taste of their vibe. I also listed all of the lab sessions by the original artist they sampled from. Make sure to follow Millenium Jazz on bandcamp or mixcloud for their weekly sessions and podcasts.
